JJ’s Legacy is a non-profit organization that was started by me, a donor mother. I was inspired by the amazing legacy that my son was able to leave in his passing and it became my mission to inspire other locals about the power each of us has to Donate Life. JJ’s Legacy Diner, Auction, and Golf Tournament, a two day event held on the first consecutive Sunday and Monday in March, paralleling the national Donate Life organization mission to educate, involve, inspire and enroll. Event proceeds from both the silent and oral auctions, the volunteer run golf tournament, and awards ceremony are utilized to create community awareness on the critically important need for organ and tissue donations. Through signing up to participate in this respected event, you can plan on experiencing two enjoyable days filled with fun that are directly linked to forwarding the mission of a lifesaving cause.
The mission of JJ’s Legacy is to provide education and awareness regarding the importance of organ and tissue donation and to support donor and recipient families of Kern County on their respective journeys. To date, funds raised through this esteemed event have gone towards creating a PSA to educate Kern County Residents about the importance of signing up on the California State Donor Registry. Through partnering with the Donate Life Ambassadors Program, we have been able to facilitate presentations at local high schools, Rotary Clubs and an information booth at the Bakersfield Business Women’s Conference among countless health fairs. Additionally, JJ’s Legacy Foundation has adopted a wish for a young girl on dialysis who is waiting for a lifesaving kidney transplant, and sponsored a Floragraph two years in a row on the Donate Life Rose Parade Float. Moving forward, the Foundation Board plans to participate in a media campaign to inspire Kern Resident to sign up to be organ donors through use of our PSA and also plans to create grief support groups for donor families and recipients alike.
